TOUR DESCRIPTION
Olá! You will learn about the City of Seven Hills, enjoy the amazing views and vibes that Lisbon has to offer and experience the best viewpoints of the city – we call them miradouros, which means ‘golden views’ – you will understand why! For example, the miradouro of Nossa Senhora do Monte is where we will get an amazing perspective of the Castle of Lisbon and of the old town which embraces the river. We will tour the most typical neighborhoods in Lisbon, such as Baixa, Chiado, Alfama, Graça, or Mouraria.
After all the up and down (it’s a very hilly city!), we will go south and cross the bridge that was named after the revolution day (25th of April Bridge) that finished the Salazar dictatorship in 1974. This bridge is often compared to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, USA (it’s our Golden Gate). On the south side we will enjoy the best view of Lisbon at the Christ the King Statue. The statue was erected in 1959 to thank God for sparing Portugal from the horrors of World War II and it was inspired by the Brazilian version of this statue. You will be amazed by this astonishing view as well as be able to identify all of the places where we stopped.
Then is time to go back to the 15th century to learn about all of the adventures of the brave Portuguese navigators. We will have the opportunity to appreciate different monuments, such as the magnificent Monastery of Jeronimos (Mosteiro dos Jerónimos), classified by UNESCO, which was built to celebrate the discovery of a sea route to India in 1498 by our most important navigator, Vasco da Gama. You can enjoy the outside and visit the church. We will also appreciate the remarkable Torre de Belem (outside only) or the beautiful Padrao dos Descobrimentos also known as Discoveries Monument (outside only).
Last but not least, we will taste the best well-kept secret of the Portuguese pastry, the Pastéis de Belém! It’s a secret recipe invented by the monks in 1837 and it is still kept a secret. There is a local ritual to eating these delicacies that we will share with you (Pasteis de Belem are included in the price; 1 per person). This is the best way to end this introduction to Lisbon.
Bem-vindo!
